2008-12-06 [Hedda]: Is it OK to add (earth) to the theme like I did? I thought it would trigger some cooler submissions.
2008-12-06 [Hedda]: Of course it has to be changed on Chinese New Year Photography Competition too then.
But this is the photo contest, I see now. How on Earth should anyone find an ox? Unless they build one out of dirt, of course...
2008-12-06 [Linderel]: Well, I think the participants could find that out by themselves, and add the earth element if they wanted... But I don't suppose it hurts. :) But if we add it here it should be added everywhere.
Finding a real ox is not compulsory, you realise. :P
2008-12-06 [Hedda]: My point isn't to change the theme, but to maybe explain that it's about to shoot something that symbolize the upcoming year.
2008-12-06 [Hedda]: You can do as you see fit. I think you've thought this through way more than me.
2008-12-06 [Linderel]: My point exactly - the earth element is by no means a required one, but the contestants may think so now. :P
2008-12-06 [Hedda]: But the ox then?
2008-12-06 [Linderel]: Of course the ox has to be present somehow.
2008-12-06 [Hedda]: It would be quite lame if people pick up photos from 1997...
2008-12-06 [Hedda]: Or photo someone born 1997, 1985 or something...
2008-12-06 [Linderel]: Hey, that's what the proof photo is for, remember :P
Hahahaha xD
2008-12-06 [Hedda]: Hey! I'm an ox! I can photo me!
2008-12-06 [Linderel]: <_<
2008-12-06 [Hedda]: Is that really what we want?
2008-12-06 [Linderel]: No. But I meant that it won't be necessary to find a real living ox.
2008-12-06 [Hedda]: But I'm an ox and I'm alive.
2008-12-06 [Linderel]: Pthhh. Maybe we'll just believe in people's ability to be a little more creative than merely taking a photo of a person born in the year of the ox and calling that their entry?
2008-12-06 [Linderel]: *goes add the link and earth element to all the other pages*
2008-12-06 [Hedda]: But I even look like an ox... And I'm not creative.
2008-12-06 [Linderel]: Strive for it, then!
2008-12-06 [Artsieladie]: This is quite an entertaining page just listening! You wouldn't want to be a 'real' ox now would you Hedda? *looks in dictionary*
"An adult castrated male of the genus Bos, used for draft and food." hehe ...And I don't think they mean 'draft beer', though.
2008-12-30 [Alexi Ice]: Alright this is a bit vauge. How would we take a picture of a chinese new year ox? Can we have like an example photo, to get our creativity on the right track?
2009-01-01 [Artsieladie]: Good point. Since I do not have a camera, I can't really provide such an example. :P
2009-01-01 [Alexi Ice]: Its ok.
2009-01-24 [Hedda]: Wow! An entry!
I corrected the pseudo HTML so that the image is clickable.
2009-01-24 [Artsieladie]: Very nice, [Xuan.]! ...for both the photo and the info. :D
2009-01-24 [Xuan.]: well thank you very much! :]
It was something simple, but I tried my best. I don't think that the lion dance will be coming through until February here because they have to head to the capital to make money first.
But i will definately post a wiki and a link to it, so you can all see.
2009-01-24 [Artsieladie]: *smiles* Often simple is the best and the nicest. Extravagance is not always what it's cracked up to be IMO. I look forward to your wiki. I would still like to see a contest with Eastern Dragons, too. :)
2009-01-28 [Xuan.]: I had another idea, my brother bought back tons of money packets from the lion dances in atlanta and i was going to take pictures, but i forgot. he won't be back until tomorrow. he has pictures, i am going to have him give them to me to show all of you. Next year i will get to do the symbols! everyone made 600$ this year from performing.
2009-01-28 [Xuan.]: does this mean i get to win?
2009-01-28 [Linderel]: Unless someone submits before ET midnight today... yeah, you're winning by default.
2009-01-28 [Artsieladie]: I just came from the Chinese New Year, Helsinki 2009, by [hannes] wiki-page. The wiki caught my eye on Mainstreet under "Latest public wiki-pages:". There's some great photos there. :)
2009-01-28 [Xuan.]: bahahaha. BY default. i love it. my picture sucks. lol
2009-01-28 [Xuan.]: i looked at that wiki... it kind of gives you the wrong impression. That is just a performance that they put on. They also put on those kind of performances through out the year, so it's not that special. What we need pictures of his the actual celebration and lion dance on the streets, through the markets, and the restaurants.
2009-01-28 [Artsieladie]: I kinda' thought you would have an opinion about the photos (which I wanted to hear) and this is part of the reason why I mentioned it here. I agree. A real celebration (anything) will always trump a substitute I think. ;)
2009-01-28 [Linderel]: I think winning by default is boring. Lacks any real reward <_<
2009-01-28 [Xuan.]: hey your just jealous. bahahaha.
:]
atleast i tried :[
2009-01-28 [Linderel]: Yes, at least you tried! :D
2009-02-03 [*micky*]: I went to chinse newyear on January 31th...Lolz so I was to late after all xD
2009-02-03 [Xuan.]: Micky, you weren't too late at all, the deadline was quite Asian-blind if you ask me. If they knew what they were throwing a contest for they'd realize that the new year is celebrated for a couple of weeks :]
2009-02-03 [Linderel]: Better next year? xD
I'm using the fact that this was an entirely new contest as an excuse. Though it's not really a good one. *sigh* Well... I promise that next time around, we'll set a more reasonable deadline. :) Or perhaps we can still wiggle in another week or so here.
2009-02-03 [Artsieladie]: I've been pretending to not notice the date, hoping for more entries. lol ;) [Linderel], I think your reasoning is perfectly legitimate. It IS the first time out for this contest theme, and since we weren't raised in this culture, it is a learning experience. This is why those that have knowledge should come forth with it and share it, so that all may benefit. I have no problem with extending the deadline. :)
2009-02-03 [Artsieladie]: *grins*
2009-02-03 [Linderel]: We might actually want to change the date, then. :3
2009-02-03 [Artsieladie]: Yeah, I think so. I wouldn't mind giving it another month this round. Next year, we can start it much earlier, hopefully. ;)
2009-02-04 [Xuan.]: lol. Extend the date :] I will probably lose, but it's okay :] who knows maybe my brother will get other the lion and let me take pictures of it lol.
2009-02-06 [Artsieladie]: Deadline extended: 2009-2-28 :D
2009-02-17 [Easterling]: Hmm... wasn't there a rule that said that you needed to add a proof-photo? I might have a photo that I could participate with, but I gave up the idea because it was taken before I saw this contest and therefore I wasn't able to take a proof-photo... :P
2009-02-18 [Xuan.]: i can take a proof photo but i was unaware that there was a rule for this one.
2009-02-18 [Xuan.]: muahahahaha. i shall not break the rules!!!! i am determined.
2009-02-18 [Easterling]: Ah, I see the shoe there! :P
2009-02-18 [Xuan.]: LOL. I'm a dork.
2009-02-18 [Easterling]: And apparently you're a winner. x)
2009-02-18 [Xuan.]: nah, before they extended the date, i was the only entrant and they didn't want to give me the prize lol. ^_^
2009-02-18 [Easterling]: I guess they wanted to give more a chance to enter the contest. I'd like to enter, but I'm still hesitating about that proof-photo-ru
2009-02-18 [Xuan.]: Enter it anyways, it's always worth a try. They may just let you in because we don't have a lot of entries.
2009-02-18 [Easterling]: I'll just wait for some comments on that..
2009-02-19 [Artsieladie]: Thanks for bringing up the proof photo issue, [Easterling]. :D Maybe if we could see your photo? Was it taken by your current camera? This would help 'maybe' to help verify that it's your photo, if the camera info is in the properties' window. *just thinking out loud* Anyone else have any thoughts and/or suggestions? ;)
2009-02-19 [Easterling]: x) Yes, it was taken by my current camera, but what difference does that make, you mean? Even if I leave some information about the camera, it wouldn't be more believable than if I just gave my word.
But anyway, it's not such a big deal.
2009-02-19 [Xuan.]: ...
wow.
2009-02-20 [Artsieladie]: In this image, I use one of [Hedda]'s photos as an example, you can see in the properties window, the camera manufacturer and the model number. If you have other pictures taken by this camera, as well as the picture you are referring to, they all should have this same information on them -or- I would think so.
http://elftown
I dunno. I'm just trying to come up with an alternative. :P
2009-02-21 [Xuan.]: Your way of thinking is amazing for real though. Good thought!!!! Awesome alternative.
2009-02-21 [Artsieladie]: Thanks, but I'm still not completely sure that this is fool proof, and I don't have even one camera to try to experiment this theory with. But someone else that has used more than one camera, can likely verify or nullify this theory. ;P
2009-02-21 [Xuan.]: it doesn't show that information on my pictures.
2009-02-21 [Xuan.]: How did you get that information from hedda's photograph?
2009-02-21 [Artsieladie]: On the "full size" viewing (not resized by pseudo html), right click, choose "properties" (or it may be "image properties") and a smaller window opens up. This is the little window seen in the image link I pasted previously that shows the info about the camera used. :)
